Professional Investigative Engineers (PIE) grew out of a specialized division of an architectural engineering firm. PIE became a separate corporation in April 1999. Today the principals include Matthew Blackmer, Paul Duncan, Edward Fronapfel, and Craig Sellers. In January 2000 PIE opened its first office in Westminster, Colorado. Just one year later in January 2001, due to continual growth and development, PIE moved into a larger office space. The new location allowed for serving the expanding needs of our customers. Due to the continuing expansion, in March 2004 PIE purchased a 15,000 square foot 2 story building in Arvada, Colorado for the corporate office relocation. The additional space provided room for an in-house laboratory, and increased services and growth opportunities.

PIE's business primarily consists of forensic investigation and analysis, and expert witness services for attorneys, homeowners, risk, property, and facility managers, and the insurance industry. Project inspections are not only given the attention to detail required, but reports are processed quickly and accurately. PIE's investigative engineering services encompass a wide range of areas including construction defects; fire origin and cause; structural failures; civil analysis; mechanical and electrical; personal injury; and traffic accident reconstruction.

From its inception, the PIE team has made a strong commitment to servicing the insurance and legal communities. This has allowed the company to create opportunities for its staff, increase the scope of services, and establish a name in the industry.

PIE's construction defect staff has gained a statewide and regional reputation as the experts to whom legal counsel, the insurance industry and news media turn to for services and opinions. The PIE team of fire investigators is well respected by the insurance and fire origin and cause community, and has provided origin and cause services throughout the Rocky Mountain Region, Southwest, Florida and the Pacific Northwest. In the area of traffic accident reconstruction, our investigators have worked with many large insurance carriers and attorneys on a national basis.
